Work offline
Posted by CRMAdam on Tue, 05/04/2011 - 10:03
Hi,
I have been working on an old version of Maximizer and have finally decided to get with the times and purchase a new CRM system.
The company is small but quite spread out - this includes 2 offices in Africa where the internet connection is unreliable.
I like the idea of a hosted solution (as we have no IT department) but need a solution that would allow off line access that subsequently syncs when internet connection is back up. I have looked at the most popular CRMs as well as ones such as Zoho and Batchbook but am starting to get a bit lost!
Can anybody recommend a solution that would be suitable?
Many thanks,
Adam

Offline working
Hi Adam
I should preface this reply by saying we're a salesforce.com implementation partner so that you understand our perspective.
As you probably know salesforce is a web based CRM solution that allows you to use the system on any internet connected device. However there's also an Offline version that sits on your pc that allows you to create and update data, and subsequently sync to the main database. The only significant limitations are that the Offline version doesn't contain any 'dynamic' functionality (e.g. generate workflows) as this requires interaction with the main database. In addition you can't run reports or dashboards as again these are dependant on queries on the live data. You can however use List Views that give you filtered lists of different types of data.
I use the Offline version a great deal when on trains, planes etc. We've also just deployed salesforce to a company based in the UK that exports equipment to West Africa and has offices over there. I know they liked the idea of being able to work offline when necessary.
Kind regards
Gary
