Users need economical, efficient and convenient ways to access the internet, and Great Wall Technology has invested RMB 100 million to do just that. Great Wall Broadband Network (GWBN) aims to connect 10M broadband network more cheaply, and develop services such as internet browser, VOD/AOD, distance learning and community e-commerce. GWBN's head office is in Beijing.
GWBN also caters for apartments concentrated in residential areas in the mainland. Apart from telephone and TV sockets, GWBN will lay fiberlink Ethernet in the residential areas.
Great Wall has recruited Prof. Yang Yuhang as general manager for GWBN. Prof. Yang aged 38, studied telecommunication in the UK in the 80s and gained a master’s degree in 1987 from the University of Aston. Prior to this, Prof. Yang was assistant to the principle of Jiaotong University in Shanghai and was chairman of China Internet Two association.
GWBN expects to cover 5 million users in three years with registered users over 2.5 million, and has current contracts with Chengdu, Shanghai, Kunming, Shenzhen, Wuhan, and Beijing.
