Customer relationship portals company Aspect Communications has appointed the former top Electronic Data Systems (EDS) sales executive Gary L. Smith as its new CEO.
Leading Aspect's global sales and customer service operations, including more than 1,400 employees in 25 countries, Smith will report to Aspect president and CEO, Beatriz V. Infante.

Smith previously held the position of chief sales officer at EDS. Over the past year at EDS, he had been responsible for increasing sales contracts from $11.8billion in 1998 to $24.9billion.
He joined EDS in 1994 as vice president of sales for the Global Telecommunications division in the communications industry group and was promoted in 1997 to vice president of sales and sales support.
Prior to joining EDS, Smith was vice president of commercial sales and division vice president of national accounts at Williams Telecommunications. He was vice president of division national account programs and later director of Advanced Network Systems at MCI Telecommunications for five years. Before MCI, he was director of sales and marketing for NCR's Office Systems division and began his sales, marketing and management career at IBM, where he spent 13 years.
