Orange and Norwich Union axe UK customer management jobs

There have been further cuts in UK call centre operations with Orange and Norwich Union sending more jobs to India.

Mobile phone giant Orange plans to close down its call centre in Peterlee in north England and create 300 more jobs in India, where it already has a staff of 1,000. The call centre closure will lead to abolishing 900 jobs. The company also plans to axe 100 jobs in Solihull, near Birmingham.

Union officials have reacted with anger. "It's disgusting," said Lynn Browne, regional officer for the Commercial Workers' Union (CWU).
