Following on from last week's article we are able to bring you an in depth report on the AOL HomeGrocer.com integration.

America Online, Inc. an interactive services company, has announced a five-year alliance with HomeGrocer.com, making the Washington-based company its Internet grocer of choice.

Under the $60 million agreement, AOL and CompuServe members and visitors to AOL.com, Netscape Netcenter, Digital City, AOL MovieFone and Oxygen.com will be able to access HomeGrocer.com everywhere the service is available. HomeGrocer’s selection includes fresh produce, meats, seafood, dairy products, local speciality foods, household items, health and beauty aids, and much more.

"HomeGrocer.com was founded on the belief that online technology, combined with old-fashioned home delivery, offers busy consumers a more convenient way to shop," said Jon Landers, senior vice president of Marketing & Sales, HomeGrocer.com. "We are delighted to bring this combination to the leading online brands of AOL."

Cramped parking lots and long checkout lines are a thing of the past. Simply by registering on the HomeGrocer.com site, customers will be able to shop 24 hours a day with ease, check out, and have their groceries delivered right to their door, or even their kitchen counter.

"HomeGrocer.com shares our belief that online technology should bring real value to people's everyday lives," said Bob Pittman, President and Chief Operating Officer of America Online.

Shopping has never been this easy. By typing the product name or brand into a box on your screen, then clicking Search, you set the ball rolling. On the left side of your screen is a list of products to help you shop quickly.  In the recipe category, you can find your favourite, and click "Add All Recipe Items to Cart,"  and you'll get all the ingredients you need to make the recipe. A list of every item you've ever purchased at HomeGrocer.com is saved automatically, but is never shared with anyone else.

HomeGrocer.com combines sophisticated technology with good old-fashioned service. Every product is delivered to consumers' kitchen counters by friendly professionals in the company's fleet of tri-temperature trucks. Customers can order groceries via the Internet until 11 p.m. for next-day delivery. Deliver is free for all first orders and those of $75 or more.

Founded in 1997, HomeGrocer.com has headquarters in Kirkland, Washington, and five centres in Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Orange County and Los Angeles, CA.  Additional metropolitan centres are planned in the next twelve months, in Dallas, TX; San Diego, CA; Atlanta, GA; Southern Connecticut and nearby suburbs of New York City; the Bay Area in Northern California and Washington D.C.

There is an unconditional guarantee of satisfaction. In fact, HomeGrocer.com was recognised by the leading online customer service authority, Feedback Direct Inc., as one of the top 50 North American companies to demonstrate consistently superior service.
