TietoEnator has struck a deal with the Finnish bank, Handelsbanken, for the application management and development of its information systems. The agreement will be worth $42.5 million over the next four years.

Among the first projects will be the transfer of the present systems’ maintenance to TietoEnator, the renewal of the Internet services, and a customer management project.

Eric Nyman, head of development, says the partnership will help to make Handelsbanken one of Finland’s major banks.

According to Veli Pohjolainen, TietoEnator senior executive vice president, the agreement is a major display of confidence, consolidating the company’s partnership operations in the Scandinavian finance sector.

Handelsbanken, which aims at better profitability than its competitors, opened its twentieth office in Hyvinkää, Finland, at the beginning of November - the fourth branch this year.

TietoEnator’s finance sector has about 1,600 employees, around 300 customers, and offices in ten countries. TietoEnator is the leading supplier of solutions and services to the finance sector in Scandinavia.
