EBI Companies, one of North Americas national workers compensation insurers and a subsidiary of international insurance giant Royal & SunAlliance Insurance Group, has selected the Enterprise Reporting solution for e-business from Cognos, the vendor of enterprise business intelligence (BI) solutions. Cognos have said that EBI is deploying the Web-based Cognos solution to deliver coordinated and consistent information to employees, partners and clients, helping them make faster and smarter decisions as they build a 'Zero Accident Culture'.
Through its 'Zero Accident Culture', EBI aims at eliminating workplace injuries by systematically reducing hazards, modifying unsafe behaviors, and building an organization-wide commitment to health and safety. Cognos has an outstanding track record of successful Web deployments in the financial services industry, said Dennis Sweeney, EBI director of information services. Cognos offers an end-to-end business intelligence solution that satisfies the growing information demands of our customers, prospects and agents, and allows EBI to establish a true e-business environment. This solution enables our employees and business partners to make proactive decisions that improve business performance and client relationships.
EBI employees began using the Cognos solution internally in 1999, and the organizations long-term strategy is to extend Enterprise Reporting to its clients, agents and brokers. EBI claim and accident prevention employees will access Web-based information cubes and reports developed with the software to perform multidimensional analysis on claims data, and create, access and distribute accurate and timely reports in minutes over an intranet.
According to Cognos EBI have cited several reasons for choosing their BI solution:
- Data scalability - The solutions ability to make large volumes of data easily accessible;
- The multi-dimensional capabilities that the solution provides and its intuitiveness;
- Cognos proven ability to deploy a Web-based solution to thousands of users;
- EBI also expects to reduce system costs of its mainframe environment by eliminating a significant number of canned and ad hoc queries.
The Cognos solution is expected to interface with EBIs data warehouse, generating reports containing millions of records. The solutions methodology will minimize EBIs disk space requirements by compressing data into information packets. Users within and outside the company should be able to concurrently access business information over the Web without compromising performance. The intuitive solution is intended to empower EBI users to retrieve and analyze information, and create and distribute reports by themselves with no involvement from the Information Technology department.
The financial services industry is highly competitive, and organizations such as EBI understand the advantage they gain by using Cognos business intelligence to transform information into a strategic weapon, said Terry Hall, Cognos chief operating officer. By connecting their employees, partners and clients to their organization through a shared information environment, EBI is assured of coordinated and consistent decision-making and improved partner and client relationships.
