iXL hires new bosses – and 300 jobs go

iXL Enterprises, has announced a new client service and delivery organization, including the heads of its five industry groups and six service lines. The company also named managers in several other key positions.

The new managers have been evaluating their respective organizations, and as a result, iXL said it will reduce the workforce from 1,300 employees to approximately 1,000 employees.

Most of these eliminated positions were involved in general web building roles. iXL, however, expects the reduction to be short-term as it continues to recruit in client management, CRM and supply chain consulting services. The company anticipates that its employee base will grow over the next several months.

Since the beginning of the year, iXL has hired more than 25 new senior client service and delivery managers and approximately 175 staff overall.

The following are iXL’s heads and key new employees for its five industry groups: financial services, travel and transportation, manufacturing, retail and consumer goods and enterprise services. Employees with an asterisk (*) joined in 2001:

Financial Services
Jay D. Norman* – global managing partner. He most recently led PricewaterhouseCoopers’ financial services eBusiness practice and was the lead client partner for American Express and Ford Credit. Prior to that, he held leadership positions with McKinsey and Company, Andersen Consulting and Digital Equipment.

Al McConnell* – joins the insurance practice within financial services. Most recently, he was an executive vice president of Client Services with Nisus, Inc. McConnell also spent six years as a senior consultant with McKinsey & Co.

Judy Honig* – client partner. She was previously a vice president with eLoyalty and principal, management consulting service, for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Honig was also a senior associate for Booz, Allen & Hamilton.

Russ Fearing* – client partner. Fearing was most recently senior manager for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ financial services consulting practice. He also held leadership positions at BankBoston and Bank of New England.

Travel and Transportation
Bruce Speechley – global managing partner. Prior to joining iXL, Bruce was part of the senior management team at Lanyon Inc., a leading travel technology supplier. Speechley’s career in the travel industry began at a major UK-based airline.

William A. Brinkerhoff* – vice president, focusing on the hospitality industry. He was previously a principal with GeoMASS. He also served as chief operating officer of VacationLink.com.

Kris Besch – vice president of strategy. She brings more than 15 years of diversified experience in domestic and international environments and in-depth knowledge of global reservation systems. Prior to iXL, she held a managerial role with Worldspan’s eCommerce group.

Manufacturing
Patrick J. Kelley – global managing partner. Before joining iXL, Kelley was a vice president at Gemini Consulting (now Cap Gemini Ernst & Young) where he was responsible for the manufacturing industry practice for its North American electronic business unit.

Ronald Fischer* – senior vice president. He joins from Surgency, Inc. (formerly Benchmarking Partners), where he was chief marketing officer and partner. He also led the chemical industry global market team for Gemini Consulting in Germany, and spent more than 13 years at IBM in sales, marketing and product management for its information systems group.

Jose Martinez* – vice president. He joins from marchFIRST, where he was director of strategic alliances. Prior to that he held several senior-level positions in information technology, including MIS director for the Brookfield Zoo, and division head of MIS for Thorek Hospital and Medical Center.

Retail and Consumer Goods
David H. Friedman – global managing partner. Prior to joining iXL, Friedman spent 10 years with Andersen Consulting as an associate partner in the strategic services practice.

Roxanne Takara* – client partner. Takara was most recently a management consultant for Amicada. Prior to that, she served as vice president, eBusiness development director for Grey Interactive and was a management consultant for Citibank World Wide Securities Technology.

Enterprise Services
Regina Groves – global managing partner. Previously, Groves was vice president of finance for Kaiser Permanente’s southeast division and served six years in strategic management consulting at McKinsey & Company. Groves also served as chief financial officer for Egleston Children’s Hospital from 1992 to 1994.

The following are the leadership and key new hires for the six service lines: core engineering and technology, CRM, B2E, digital re-engineering, strategy and user experience.

Core engineering and technology
Sanjay K. Apte* global managing partner and co-leader of the group. Apte was most recently senior vice president for professional services at Financial Fusion, a Sybase company. Apte also held key positions for Ingres Corporation and Chase Manhattan Bank.

Mark Kraieski – global managing partner and and co-leader of the group. Prior to iXL, Kraieski was director of Internet services at Delta Air Lines and senior manager of Internet services at W.R. Grace & Co.

Customer Relationship Management
Patrick L. Carter* – global managing partner. Carter was most recently president of Targetbase Interactive (TBi), an Omnicom Group Company. Prior to joining Omnicom, he was a senior manager in Ernst & Young’s CRM practice. Carter has also held key technical positions with corporations including AT&T.

Normand C. Lepine – leads enterprise relationship management (ERM) focus within the CRM practice. Lepine most recently led the retail and direct marketing industry group at Tessera Enterprise Syste. Prior to joining Tessera, Lepine was a manager for Coopers & Lybrand Consulting’s data warehouse and decision support systems practice. He also held technical positions with Digital Equipment Corporation and The Stanley Works.

B2E
Steve Floyd – global managing partner, has lead iXL’s B2E efforts since 1996 when he merged FloyDesign with Creative Video and Mulholland Media. Floyd also served as the training manager for management, sales and technology in Coca-Cola’s bottling organization.

Digital Re-engineering
Douglas D. Reynolds – global managing partner. Prior to joining iXL, Reynolds served as senior manager of Management Consulting for Deloitte Consulting where he was responsible for consumer products and manufacturing supply-chain integration, strategy and IT practice areas.

Strategy
Hemen Shah – global managing partner. Shah was most recently vice president of strategy and business development for Campbell Soup Company. Prior to that, he was nine years with the Boston Consulting Group in the US, UK and Asia.

David Douglas – senior vice president responsible for the delivery of multilingual and multi-cultural eBusiness applications. Douglas has almost 20 years of globalization experience.

User Experience
Rick Shaughnessy – global managing partner and co-leader of the service line. Previously, Shaughnessy was vice president and creative director for Bagby & Company. Prior to that, he was executive producer and writer for 1st Generation Fil. He is a member of the advertising and marketing curriculum development committee for the University of Chicago graduate studies program.

John Schmitz – global managing partner and co-leader of the service line. Before joining iXL, Schmitz was a partner and founding member of Interactive Bureau. Prior to that, he held a leadership role at Roger Black Incorporated.

The following are the leadership and key new employees in iXL’s operations, application management and support services, project management and business development groups:

Operations
Richard Erickson – senior vice president of operations and office managing partner for iXL New York. Prior to joining iXL he was a tri-state regional managing director for Aztec Technology Partners. From 1988 to 1998, Erickson co-founded Digital Network Associates.

Applications Management and Support Services
James Biere Marceau – global managing partner and senior vice president of global client services for several key clients. Marceau runs Boston operations. Prior to joining iXL, he was an executive vice president with UNICCO, and on the executive committee. He also spent several years as director of International Business and Corporate Development with Ryder System, Inc.

Project Management
Donna Booth – global managing partner of the group. Prior to joining iXL, Booth served as director of the Northeast/Canada Project Management Office for PeopleSoft. Booth has extensive experience in executive and project management with several consulting start-ups including I-Cube and served as a consultant with Aetna.

Business Development
Robert Michelson – senior vice president responsible for client marketing and product development. Before joining iXL, Michelson was president of FastWEB.com and served as president of TechLaw Automation Partners International, Inc.

Lisa Pollina – senior vice president of worldwide business development. Prior to joining iXL, Pollina specialized in new market entry strategies as director of international sales and market expansion for two US consumer products companies.

Daniel de Cesare* – senior vice president, focused on CRM. De Cesare iXL from eAssist Global Solutions, where he was vice president of strategic business development and channels.

Julie Carlock* – vice president. Carlock was most recently director of business development for marchFIRST. She also has managed the business development and client relations management efforts for companies including Norrell Information Services, IBM Global Services and Perot Systems Corporation.

Roger Jones – vice president for the travel and transportation group in Europe. Prior to iXL, Jones was responsible for global accounts at Amadeus Global Travel Distribution. His travel experience also includes marketing roles for the Thompson Travel Group, one of Europe’s leading integrated travel firms.
