i2 Technologies has set up a global energy and chemicals business unit to house a new supply chain management application suite that it is developing
with Shell Global Solutions.

The unit will be headed up by Amir Kazmi, vice president and general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and will handle functions ranging
from research and development to sales, marketing and consulting.

The i2 Downstream Oil software bundle is intended to handle downstream processes in the oil and gas sector.

"There are no integrated supply chain solutions available today that meet the specific needs of the worldwide petroleum industry. The aim is that this
will become a facilitator in standardising business processes in oil and gas companies around the world to make them more efficient," Kazmi said.

The first Downstream Oil application, which has just started shipping, is a Demand Planner offering, which will be followed by a Transportation Planner package in the second quarter of next year.

A Supply Chain Planner strategic planning application is scheduled for the third quarter of 2003, and a Refinery Scheduler product by the end of next
year.

I2 is also working on an application suite aimed at facilitating upstream business processes in the oil and gas sector, and is likely to announce this
in collaboration with another partner at the start of 2003.

Shell Global Systems provides professional services and technical consultancy to Shell and also to third party energy and petrochemical companies.
