Shell Global Solutions International is teaming up with i2 Technologies to assess the development of a fully integrated supply chain software package for the downstream oil industry.
The theory is that any eventual solution that emerges will be driven by real customer demand and actual market dynamics. It would be an end-to-end software solution for supply chain management, covering operations from crude selection to product storage at terminals and depots and, in combination with improved business processes, would be expected to deliver significant bottom line improvements.
Shell companies operating downstream supply, manufacturing and distribution businesses around the world would be amongst the first to implement this package. Michiel Boersma, President of Shell Global Solutions said: “Being at the forefront of this type of development is a key strategic driver for our business. “
The combined team is already working on the functional specification and definition phase to understand and solve the complexities of aligning supply chain operations across multiple countries, demand envelopes and refinery production centers.
Shell Global Solutions is made up of six independent, innovative technology businesses. Each has its own area of expertise. All six routinely combine their research data, operational experience, technical know-how and key staff to deliver cost-effective solutions to commercial customers.
