Symantec CEO joins UPS board

John Thompson, the CEO of software publisher and Internet securities group Symantec, has been elected to the board of directors at UPS, the express carrier and package delivery company.

Thompson, 51, joined Symantec after a 28-year career with IBM, rising to the post of general manager of IBM Americas.

Raised in south Florida, he holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Florida A&M University and a master’s degree in management science from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
