Plane crazy: Budget airlines blasted for soaring complaints

EasyJet and Ryanair were the subject of the highest levels of complaints from UK airline passengers last year, the aviation watchdog has revealed.

Flight delays and cancellations accounted for more than four out of 10 grievances, while lost bags and people not being allowed to board their planes were another source of ire. Baggage limits and extra charges accounted for only 6% of gripes relating to the budget airlines, however.

The Air Transport Users’ Council (ATUC) received 719 complaints about easyJet compared with 673 for Ryanair.

The situation came to light after the Liberal Democrats made a freedom of information request on the subject. They said that the figures proved that lower fares had led to lower customer service standards.
