Salespeople: Knowledge key to overcoming negative public perception

One in three consumers has a negative view of the sales profession, new research has shown.

The study by Grass Roots into how the profession is perceived also found that consumers ranked ‘knowledge’ as the most important attribute of a salesperson, followed by ‘helpfulness’ and ‘professionalism’.

The business services company polled 3,100 consumers on the specific factors that influence buying decisions with two thirds (66%) saying price combined with value for money had the greatest impact. A third of respondents valued the quality of a product as most important.
