As the number of apps being offered by firms for mobile devices grows daily, a flaw in an iPhone-based mobile banking application has provided pause for thought for customers.
Financial services organisation Citigroup has issued a warning that its Citi Mobile App, which runs on Apple’s smartphone, contains a security glitch. As a result, it recommended that customers upgrade to a newer version, which was released on 19 July and deals with the problem.
The organisation said that the application accidentally saved information, which included account numbers, bill payments and security access codes, in a hidden file on the iPhone, which it was worried could be accessed by a third party. The data could likewise be saved on users’ computers if the two had been synched together and accessed that way.
