Google and DirecTV set for ad partnership

Google is continuing its bid to branch out into TV advertising by signing a deal with US satellite company DirecTV, while the UK’s ITV is planning to reduce its reliance on it by introducing pay-TV channels.

ITV has agreed to launch high-definition versions of its ITV2, 3 and 4 channels on Sky as part of a wider strategy to boost revenues from non-TV advertising sources, according to the BBC. The move was necessary because, chief executive Adam Crozier said, the company had to change "substantially" after being hit by an advertising slump during the recession, although ad revenues were now up 18% compared with the first half of 2009.
