Facebook has officially unveiled its App Centre, a hub containing more than 600 apps from the likes of Pinterest, Nike+ and Draw Something.
The social network will also provide personal recommendations to users based on the apps their friends have downloaded.
Although available to install as a web-based platform, apps are emphasised most for mobile users on iOS and Android devices.
Facebook’s Aaron Brady said on the web developer’s blog: “The App Center is designed to grow mobile apps that use Facebook – whether they’re on iOS, Android or the mobile web. From the mobile App Center, users can browse apps that are compatible with their device, and if a mobile app requires installation, they will be sent to download the app from the App Store or Google Play.”
To determine the quality of an app, which will be responsible for the App Centre, Facebook intends to use a member ratings and engagement to ensure each app is well-designed.
Initially rolled out to US members, the UK launch is expected to follow in “coming weeks”.
