Qatar Airways has unveiled a new Twitter-powered global race that awards pairs of Twitter users flights to meet at any of the airline’s destinations.
Contestants must register first register their participation on the Tweet-a-Meet microsite, selecting a companion from their list of Twitter followers. Upon accepting the invitation, both teammates will then choose any of Qatar Airways’ 117 international destinations as their meeting point.
From the start of the race on 15 July, the pair can accumulate airmiles by tweeting with their destination hashtag, #tweetameet and their companions’ username.
The first three teams with the highest number of tweets at the end of the race will each win a pair of business class tickets to their chosen destination whilst those who do not make it to the top three will be entered into a draw to win one of five pairs of Qatar Airways Economy Class tickets to their dream destination.
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Bake said: “With Tweet-A-Meet, we want to provide a social media platform that would connect people wherever they are and even reward them for it.
“A good percentage of our bookings come from online channels, so most of our passengers are very social media savvy. As a result, Qatar Airways has been actively looking at a variety of different distribution channels using new technology to reach out even more to our customers.”
Registration for the competition has already begun with the race taking pace from 15-24 July.
Tweet-a-Meet is the latest in a flurry of digital campaigns to come from the airline sector. Most recently, KLM launched its ‘Meet and Seat’ campaign whilst BA announced a new facial recognition campaign to bolster its customer service.
