Oracle and HP go to war over Hurd appointment?

US lawyers have questioned whether Hewlett-Packard’s legal attempt to block its former chief executive from working at Oracle will stick due to the focus of Californian courts on supporting employee mobility.
But Oracle’s chief executive Larry Ellison also issued a strongly-worded criticism of HP’s move, implying that it could be the end of business relations between the two companies.
"Oracle has long viewed HP as an important partner. The HP board is acting with utter disregard for that partnership, our joint customers and their own shareholders and employees. The HP board is making it virtually impossible for Oracle and HP to continue to cooperate and work together in the IT marketplace," he said.
HP issued its law suit against Mark Hurd yesterday only a day after the enterprise software provider announced that it had hired him as president, replacing Charles Philips who resigned.
