Instagram has taken the social media world by storm over the past few years, with millions of people of all ages from around the world jumping onto the popular platform. Businesses have come to recognize the marketing power of Instagram and how it can help them drive sales. 

But the key to selling on Instagram -- as on most other social media channels -- is to not get too caught up in selling and to instead focus more on engaging with your audience. If you’re looking for some insights on the best ways to get more engagement and sales on Insta, then you’ve come to the right place. Here are four tips you can put into practice immediately. 

1. Engage Instagram Influencers to Spread Brand Awareness

One of the most powerful ways to get your brand out there in front of more potential customers is to enlist the help of social media influencers. Influencers include celebrities in music, television and film. But they also include microcelebrities. There are a lot of influencers who are simply famous on Instagram and nowhere else -- and that’s just fine. 

The point is that influencers are people who have a built-in audience. So if you can connect with influencers whose audiences are a match with your products and services, then you can get a lot of traction with these partnerships. 

Search for hashtags related to your products, services and industry, and then start reaching out to the top accounts that pop up under those tags. 

2. Share Content that Your Subscribers Will Love

While piggybacking on the success of influencers in your niche will help your brand grow, don’t forget that you too should be trying to become an influencer in your industry. Use the momentum gained by working with influencers to build your own authority and influence. 

How do you do that? How do you become an influencer yourself? 

It all starts with your content. When you put out high-quality content that stirs up emotions and gets conversations going, that will bring a lot of traffic to your Instagram account. When new people come to your account to check you out, make sure that you have plenty of visually-striking content up that will instantly grab their attention and persuade them to follow you. 

Don’t just post pics of your products, though. That should be included, but you could also post some behind-the-scenes pics of your employees doing their work, having fun at company socials and getting involved in their communities. You could also try humorous content that relates to your business -- something that your target audience might find relatable and funny. 

Experiment with different types of content -- photos, videos, memes, splitscreen montages -- and see how your followers respond. Measure which posts get the most engagement and then continue to publish similar content. Just make sure that your content is consistent with your branding and your company culture. Never sacrifice authenticity for likes. 

3. Treat Your Audience Like Real People Instead of Just Potential Sales

Speaking of authenticity, there’s nothing that turns people away faster than commercial accounts that just spam their products out there to their followers and never engage with them in real conversations that are of interest to them. 

Don’t just pretend to care about your customers and followers. Show it by taking some time to engage with them. Respond to their comments. Like and comment on some of their content too. Don’t just copy/paste or say, “Nice post”. Spend more than two seconds and leave a real comment. Real engagement takes time, but it also gets better results. 

4. Interact with Subs Using Instagram Stories

Short and sweet Instagram stories are another effective way to engage with your followers. While many of your regular posts might seem to get lost in the feed with all the other content floating around, IG stories get a lot more attention because they are pinned to the top of everyone’s screen. And since most of your competitors are still shying away from this type of content, that leaves the door wide open for you to swoop in and grab some attention. Do not overlook this golden opportunity, as it won’t last forever. 

Building a following is only one part of the equation to successfully marketing your business on Instagram. To push into a higher conversion rate, you need to engage with your followers in ways that are meaningful to them. By following these four Instagram tips, you’ll move a lot closer to your goal of growing your brand and driving sales.
