What is direct marketing?

Definition of direct marketing:  

Direct marketing is using a range of mediums to sell products or services directly to consumers [as opposed to selling via a retailer].

Direct marketing takes place when you’re able to communicate one-to-one with a customer.

Typically, that might mean using one of the following techniques:

  • Cold-calling
  • Mail order catalogues
  • Text messages
  • TV and radio ads
  • Fliers
  • Newspaper and magazine adverts
