Microsoft's Dynamics Snap family integrates Office with CRM

Microsoft has launched its new Dynamics Snap family of applications to enable customers to access CRM data or trigger workflows from their Outlook desktop packages.

Dynamics, which was formerly known as Project Green, is the name of the software giant’s next generation business applications and the moniker is being used for the first time with the release of four new applications.

The first is the Timesheet Management Snap-In, which replicates an appointment or meeting created in Outlook in a time entry in AX 3.0 (formerly known as Axapta) and Dynamics CRM 3.0 so that the data does not have to be re-entered manually.

A Vacation Management Snap-In also enables staff to submit holiday requests via Outlook. Once the request has been made, an email is automatically sent to their line manager for approval and the holiday period is entered into the AX time and attendance module.

Business Data Lookup tools for AX and Dynamics CRM 3.0, meanwhile, will enable customers to search for information using the Office interface and to copy it directly into Word documents.

The Snap-Ins are available free of charge from the Gotdotnet.com development web site and more will be released if they garner a positive response. Microsoft hopes that its partners will customise and extend the tools, but power users will be permitted to download them too.
