SAP is reorganising its development activities in a bid to to streamline its engineering and customer service activities.
The company will restructure its development staff under three new umbrella groups, each overseen by an SAP board member and each with revenue, market share and customer-satisfaction targets.
The three groups are: Manufacturing Industries, which includes the development of supply-chain applications; Service Industries, which encompasses customer relationship management applications; and Financial and Public Services, which includes accounting and human resources software.
"The aim is to provide a member of the executive board as a single point of contact for CIOs requiring support with industry-specific solutions," said a company spokesman. "The new structure is designed to deliver products and support faster and more efficiently.
In addition, a fourth development unit, called Application Platform and Architecture, will be created to focus on SAP's next-generation architecture and will be led by SAP Executive Board Member Peter Zencke.
The AP&A group will work closely with the Technology Platform unit, which was launched in February. SAP Executive Board Member Shai Agassi is in charge of this unit, formerly known as the Technology Development group, which was headed by SAP Supervisory Board Chairman Hasso Plattner.
