Sterling Commerce announces Multi-Enterprise Collaboration strategy

Business integration leader introduces new architecture that transforms the supply and partner value chain for maximum competitive advantage.

Business integration leader Sterling Commerce announced today a new strategy that will enable Multi-Enterprise Collaboration to transform the way businesses interact with customers, suppliers, partners and employees. With today’s announcement, Sterling Commerce becomes the first company to deliver business visibility across all multi-enterprise relationships enabling secure, fast and accurate end-to-end business collaboration.

In conjunction with today’s announcement, the company also announced a new Multi-Enterprise Services Architecture (MESA) that supports this vision and extends the value of service-oriented architectures beyond the enterprise edge (see announcement “Sterling Commerce Delivers New Architecture to Address Multi-Enterprise Collaboration Requirements for Visible Business”).

Industry analysts agree the new battleground for growth and competitive advantage resides outside the four walls of the enterprise – in an area where IT departments are most vulnerable and have the least secure and reliable infrastructure. A recent Yankee Group study stated: “The largest opportunities for many enterprises are within their supply chains and not within the four walls of their organizations. Yankee Group research reveals U.S. companies can reduce monthly inventories from $117 billion to $293 billion and increase sales from $83 billion to $166 billion by improving and extending processes beyond the edges of the enterprise.”

Terry Quigley, head of Global Financial Messaging, LogicaCMG, said: “Sterling Commerce is taking a holistic approach to the integration of businesses and business processes. In such an interconnected world, it only makes sense that sharing – application logic, business processes, and data – should likewise move beyond organisational boundaries.” LogicaCMG is an international force in IT consultancy and systems integration and a Sterling Commerce partner.

Sterling Commerce has 30 years of experience providing multi-enterprise integration and strategic information management solutions to nearly 30,000 companies worldwide. Multi-Enterprise Collaboration leverages its strengths in Business-to-Business (B2B) integration, enterprise application integration (EAI), secure file transfer, and web services in a new architecture including the extended security capabilities required for true Multi-Enterprise Collaboration.

Sam Starr, president and CEO, Sterling Commerce, said: “The challenge for today’s CIOs is to find a solution that eliminates collaboration barriers and enables business visibility across all multi-enterprise relationships while also guarding imperatives such as security, scalability and performance. Our new strategy and corresponding architecture bring together Sterling Commerce’s integration leadership, three decades of experience in managing multi-enterprise communities, and unparalleled industry knowledge surrounding the security and flexibility needed to achieve this level of collaboration outside the firewall.”
