An e-business consultancy hoping to bridge the gap between traditional consultancy and trendy start-ups, has attracted $22.5m backing from US venture capitalist Texas Pacific Group.

Differentis, headed up by Ron Mackintosh, 51, will focus on the European market. It hopes to provide a middle ground between traditional players such as Andersen Consulting and young e-consultancies such as Razorfish.

“We don’t see many firms in the European marketplace combining the new approaches of the ‘pure plays’ with the deep technology implementation skills of traditional consultancies and system integrators, in launching successful corporate ventures,” said Mackintosh, the former European head of Computer Sciences Corporation.

“The volatility in the tech sector indicates that not all new Internet companies will succeed. But the immense and diverse growth of e-business dramatically illustrates how Internet platforms enable both new entrants and existing businesses to challenge and change the old order.”
