iXL is to open its first Benelux office in Amsterdam. The company has also entered into a services agreement with one of the world’s largest packaged goods companies which, too, will be managed out of Amsterdam, backed up by teams in London, Hamburg and the United States.
“The Benelux region is home to a number of Global 1000 companies – manufacturers, retailers, electronics and telecomms companies among them – who are demanding a fresh approach to their business,” said Bill Nussey, CEO of iXL. “As one of the first ‘e-services’ firms to enter the region aggressively, we feel the market is ripe for the expertise that we are able to provide. In addition, the high skills of the workforce and the region’s cultural flexibility make this a promising market .”
Forrester predicts up to a thousand online markets will emerge in the EU with the hope of claiming the 900 billion euros that will flow through online markets in 2005. The Benelux countries, with strong ties to the economies of UK and Germany which will account for half of all EU eMarketplace trade by 2005, are expected to exhibit growth rates of more than 200% in 2003.
Richard Kanner will lead iXL’s Amsterdam office as general manager. He has 20 years’ experience in management consulting with international firms, including Andersen Consulting and McKinsey, where most recently he was senior partner. Kanner joins iXL from Origin Consulting, where he was principal, responsible for business development and solution delivery. He holds a degree in Organizational Psychology from the University of Amsterdam and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the London Business School.
