HNC Software has announced that John Mutch has been named President and Chief Operating Officer, a newly created position reporting to Robert L. North, CEO and Chairman. Mutch previously held the position of President of the Insurance Solutions Division, and will remain acting President until a successor is named.

"John Mutch has an exceptional track record in building organizations and developing strategies to drive revenues and increase market share," said Robert North. "Under his leadership the HNC Insurance Solutions division achieved dramatic top-line revenue growth and significantly increased operating margins. In this new role he will now apply strategic initiatives that will build the long-term value of the entire company."

The new position has profit and loss responsibility for three divisions - Financial Solutions, Insurance Solutions and Telecommunications solutions - which will combine forces to capitalize on all of the strengths of the companies predictive solutions and service industry expertise.

During his tenure as President of Insurance Solutions, Mutch restructured the organization, increased market share from 12 to 25 percent and increased operating margins significantly.

Under Mutch's leadership, Insurance Solutions developed critical new customer and strategic partner relationships. During that time, major insurance carriers, including Fireman's Fund and Liberty Mutual, signed multimillion-dollar agreements with the company. Mutch also increased the breadth of the insurance software solutions by creating partnerships with leading managed care organizations.

Mutch joined HNC Software in 1997 as Vice President of Corporate Marketing and was later promoted to Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing and Business Development.

Previously Mutch was a founder of MVenture Holdings, Inc., a private equity fund that invests in start-up technology companies, serving as General Partner. Prior to this, he spent seven years at Microsoft Corporation holding a variety of executive marketing positions.
