John Dalton is taking over as chief operating officer of SAS in the UK with effect from this month. Dalton will manage the day-to-day activities of SAS UK. A former user of SAS software when working as a research scientist, Dalton joined the company in 1987.

During his time at SAS UK, Dalton has held various positions ranging from technical consultant in customer support and training, to sales support manager, director of technical services, director of sales, and most recently, director of operations. Dalton established a dedicated technical team to support SAS UK's sales and marketing activities and spearheaded a sweeping internal change programme that realigned the company according to its customers' industry sectors.

Dalton will report to Phil Bond, chief executive of SAS UK, who said: "John's pragmatic approach and able management of the day-to-day activities will free me up to focus on the more strategic aspects of running the company."
