Former SLP boss Schmitt joins venture capitalists

The founder of SLP InfoWare, Jean Schmitt has become a partner in the Sofinnova Partners' IT team. He will have particular responsibility for wireless application developers (WAD), and telecoms technology firms.

The Sofinnova Partners' IT team is composed of Jean-Bernard Schmidt, Olivier Protard, Frank Delorme and Alain Rodermann.

SLP InfoWare was acquired by Gemplus in 2000. Since then, Schmitt has been chairman and CEO of SLP InfoWare and Gemplus vice president of telecom solutions and applications. He graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications (ENST) and has a post-graduate degree in artificial intelligence.

"Jean Schmitt's experience as an entrepreneur will be of great help in selecting and accompanying the companies in which Sofinnova Partners invests," said Sofinnova chairman Jean-Bernard Schmidt.

Sofinnova is a venture capital company. Based in Paris, the team consists of eight general partners. The company invests in start-up and early stage companies, both in IT and life sciences.

Since 1996, Sofinnova Partners has made 60 investments, including 34 as lead investor. It currently sits on the boards of 33 companies.
