Google has unveiled a brand new platform which promises to help business owners connect with their customers.

The brand new (free!) tool, is called Google My Business, and has been developed to allow professionals to easily maintain the many different representations of their business in the virtual sphere. Search, Maps, Places and Google Plus pages can all be accessed and updated on demand, while users can also stay on top of and respond to reviews of their business posted by the public.

The announcement for Google My Business was made in a company blog post on Wednesday. “The internet is connecting more businesses with their people every day,” it reads. “However, our users tell us that finding these loyal customers can be complex and time-consuming. We believe it shouldn’t be. That’s why we are happy to introduce Google My Business – a free and easy way to find and connect with your people, wherever you are.”

Google hopes that by also integrating AdWords into the platform's capabilities, brands will be able to make use of valuable insights which will allow them to better “understand how people find and interact with” them, allowing for more effective consumer engagement.

If you use the Places service for your business already, then consider this a heads up – you’ll soon be moved onto the new dashboard if you haven’t been already.

The platform is also available in mobile app form. It’s currently available on Google Play, and will soon be cropping up in the iOS App Store, too.
