HNC Software has appointed Mary Burnside to the newly created position of chief operating officer. Burnside, the former COO of Novell Inc., will be responsible for building a scalable infrastructure to support all internal and customer operations.
HNC also announced that Bruce Hansen has been promoted to president of HNC Software. Hansen previously served as president of the company’s financial solutions division, and will now assume the lead for sales, marketing, product management and development.
Burnside and Hansen join CFO Ken Saunders and CEO John Mutch in a newly-created senior executive team called the Office of the President. HNC’s new horizontal organizational structure will improve operational and financial efficiencies, and develop a product management infrastructure to enable rapid delivery to markets worldwide.
“We’re delighted that HNC continues to attract world-class talent to our executive management team,” said Mutch. “Mary’s role is critical to our success, and she has demonstrated ability in building the infrastructure necessary to drive growth.”
“Bruce Hansen will leverage the infrastructure that Mary’s team creates to deliver world class products. This in turn will allow me to focus on developing HNC’s strategic vision and foster relationships with the investment community, strategic partners and customers,” Mutch added.
Burnside most recently served as president and COO of RealNames Corp., a global infrastructure provider of keywords. Prior to RealNames, she spent nine years at Novell, where she was responsible for approximately 4,000 employees in five central organizations including worldwide sales, service and support, manufacturing and distribution, corporate quality and several administrative functions including human resources.
Burnside holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She has been nationally recognized by Fortune for her accomplishments in the areas of financial and operations management.
