Two new analysts have joined IDC’s Software research group’s Internet Security program – Charles Kolodgy, research manager, and Brian Burke, research analyst.
Kolodgy will be involved in primary research projects and market analysis. He will cover encryption, public key infrastructure (PKI), certificate authorities, and intrusion detection software.
Burke will also provide coverage of PKI, certificate authority, and intrusion detection systems, in addition to other security areas such as biometrics, e-mail scanning, Web filtering, firewalls, anti-virus software, and 3A (authentication, administration, and authorization).
“These analysts’ combination of industry experience, analytical insight, and customer support skills will increase our responsiveness and depth of coverage,” said Chris Christiansen, program director of IDC’s Internet Security research.
Kolodgy has an impressive background as an analyst and manager at the National Security Agency. During his 16-year employment, he held a variety of positions within the Information Systems Security Organization. His accomplishments include managing the restructuring of business methods under which commercial products were evaluated for government use, and being a technical analyst assisting companies exporting strong cryptography.
Kolodgy’s extensive knowledge in cryptographic technologies, standards, and products will enhance IDC’s research and analysis. He has expertise in working with companies that incorporate cryptography into products and also understands the threats to e-commerce and privacy, and the products designed to combat such threats.
Burke spent the past year working as an inquiry analyst in IDC’s Software research group. He provided coverage for IDC’s entire software research program, including infrastructure software (security software, operating environments, system management software), enterprise applications (ERM, CRM, ASPs), and application development and deployment (application integration, information and data management, application design and construction tools). Prior to joining IDC, Burke spent over four years with GartnerGroup Inc. as manager of Client Care.
