The USAToday.com news website is to outsource its Internet operations to Loudcloud.
The news website experiences tens of millions of page views per month from around the world and continues to see significant growth in traffic. In addition, the site experiences large “spikes” in traffic as driven by major news events.
Loudcloud is to provide and manage the supporting infrastructure for the site because of its ability to scale on demand. In addition, its Opsware technology will support the environment, which USAToday.com uses to offer personalization features and dynamic content for readers.
“Our readers count on us as a reliable source of information,” said Adriaan Bouten, USAToday.com vice president of technology and business development. “We no longer need to handle the complexities of Internet infrastructure, and can focus on developing new services and enhanced delivery of its content.”
Opsware captures and manages the information, decisions and processes required to grow an Internet infrastructure. This technology automates and streamlines formerly manual tasks, offering customers quality, scale and speed.
“Loudcloud customers include some of the leading media companies publishing on the web today,” said Ben Horowitz, CEO of Loudcloud. “USAToday.com is one of the most influential media properties on the Internet, and we are delighted to be working with them.”
More than 25 million monthly visitors experience USA Today news and information. The site has more than 200,000 pages of news updated 24 hours a day.
