A strategic alliance between Oracle Corp. and Motorola, Inc. will deliver Motorola technology and services for OracleMobile.com, the new wholly-owned subsidiary of Oracle.
The new company will integrate wireless data and voice via Motorola's Mobile Internet Exchange(tm) (MIX) platform, offering a unique combination of mobile access to content and commerce services. OracleMobile.com plans to develop and market with Motorola plan customised portal solutions for carriers and service providers.
"This portal is the product of an excellent match between Oracle's portal services and Motorola's MIX communications platform," said Merle Gilmore, executive vice president and president, Motorola Communications Enterprise. "Alliances like this one, combined with our strengths in wireless, allow us to meet evolving customer needs to deliver the future faster."
The ramifications are awesome. With OracleMobile.com anyone can use a wireless device to get stock quotes; check flight reservation information; get directions; make reservations; shop; access news, weather and traffic information; check movie listings; receive alerts about important events; and perform online business and lifestyle activities from virtually anywhere in the world at any time. This can help meet the demands of corporate, small business and individual customers. Motorola expects to commit joint marketing and technology development resources to support the venture.
Denise Lahey, CEO of OracleMobile.com is enthusiastic: "With the inclusion of Motorola's MIX platform and data and voice applications, OracleMobile.com's customers will be able to manage their mobile lives on the more than one billion Internet-enabled phones, pagers or other handheld devices expected to enter the market by 2003."
