With reference to the contruction industry, this article explains how the e-marketplace is changing, with revenues modelled on a number of different streams, such as subscriptions (monthly or yearly), services (online project planning, traditional purchasing advice) and occasionally, transaction fees (typically between 0.5-8 per cent of the transaction value). This ultimately, opens up the selling arena and provides the customer with wider choice.
However there are various issues to take into account, such as some legal aspects, consolidation in the market and overselling of products. The author suggests the best actions for moving forward and selecting the right e-marketplace.
