Thanks for a great article.
That's true - the metrics depend on tactic. But there are common goals that are in all of our businesses: sales volume and in SaaS products: churn rate.
There are also general metrics for sales teams, like calls to customers made, emails and follow ups sent and others based on their activities.
We are trying to implement performance monitoring system and thanks to gamification it helps reaching OKR based on metrics mentioned above. For Pipedrive CRM you can check it here: https://getbadges.io/integration/pipedrive
We observe that metrics present in that way have positive impact on reaching correlated goals. For example, if we gamify calls made for sales, the metrics will be improved.

If you don't need huge Salesforce solution, the lightweight CRM platform like Pipedrive can be gamified easily:

I think the new way to gamification example targetted for Millenials is GetBadges (https://getbadges.io). This is a platform dedicated for IT departments and it tries to resolve problems with engaging programmers, testers and PMs with their everyday work. People are motivated by receiving achievements and fighting with monsters. GetBadges rewards players with badges and display statistics in a monthly leaderboard and the goals are set by GameMaster. We have a lot of ideas how to improve it, but I think the most important now is to concentrate on game mechanics and how to more fully engage players.
What do you think about it?
