SugarCRM has announced added social and mobile functionality to the latest version of its open source CRM applications, Sugar 6.

The firm’s chief executive Larry Augustin said of the upgrade: "The latest additions to Sugar 6 complement our growing user base and our commitment to offer a great CRM user experience anytime, anywhere. Our flexible solutions allow users to be more productive and connect more closely with their customers through new simple-to-use mobile and social tools."

The update includes a Twitter Connector to enable users to monitor the Twitter stream of any contact or company held in the system’s database. This and other Cloud Connectors together with a range of social feeds enable customers to share both internal and external data, including video, social network data and records from third party CRM systems, for collaboration purposes.

Filters or automated alerts can likewise be set up to remind staff of pressing tasks and ensure that they keep abreast of any changes to contacts, leads or account status.

Sugar 6 also enables Professional and Enterprise Edition customers to access contact information from their Apple smartphones using a customisable Sugar Mobile for iPhone package that does not need to be synchronised with Microsoft’s Outlook or alternative applications.

Native support for 13 languages, including Chinese, Russian and French, as well as local currencies, has also been added, which means that customers can now evaluate the product without needing to download and install language packs.

Finally, Sugar 6 has now been integrated with Microsoft Outlook 2010. It also includes stronger support for IMAP-based email systems such as Google’s Gmail and first-time support for the Google Chrome browser.
