New research reveals 40% of companies intend to increase the number of field sales staff whilst a further 44% plan to keep their sales team at its current size.

Mercuri International surveyed more than 2,300 executives across 23 countries and found only 12% intend to reduce their salespeople. However, the findings show this figure is higher in Italy where 28% plan to cut their sales team.

According to the report, respondents were found to be more “bullish” than average in Croatia, Latvia and Sweden, where over 45% of respondents say they plan to increase the size of their sales team.

Mercuri CEO Ola Strömberg said: “Given that 60% of executives we surveyed also say their organisation is struggling to maintain sales revenue, the results indicate that many plan to buy their way out of trouble by increasing or maintaining their investment in field sales.”
