Facebook acquires customer loyalty firm Tagtile

Facebook has acquired the team and substantially all of the assets of customer loyalty service, Tagtile.

The San-Francisco based start-up helps boost the experience of mobile customers in-store through the use of a physical device. When a customer walks into a store, they tap the Tagtile Cube (located on the store’s counter) to receive discounts or rewards. Customers must first link their smartphone to the app, which directs targeted marketing onto their phone based on the sites they visit.

In a statement, Tagtile announced what the deal would mean for its customers: “We won't be taking on any new customers as of today, but the service will continue to work as is for now. We'll be reaching out to customers directly once future plans are set, but Tagtile as it exists today won't be part of what we do at Facebook.”

Facebook’s acquisition of the firm, for an undisclosed sum, follows hot onto the heels of its billion-dollar acquisition of photo sharing service Instagram last week.
