Ardent Software, a data management software company, has announced its extended support for enterprises using SAP R/3 through a series of products and services enabling users to leverage both SAP and non-SAP data for decision processing. DataStage XE, Ardent's data integration product suite for data warehouse creation and management, provides SAP support with its Packaged Application Connection Kit (PACK) for SAP R/3, now available on UNIX platforms.
"Enterprises developing business intelligence infrastructure are demanding platform independent solutions that integrate data, not only from their ERP systems, but also from information points throughout the organization," says Doug Laney, senior program director for META group. "Enterprises continue to gravitate toward leading DW vendors like Ardent for open, industrial-strength solutions that support heterogeneous infrastructures, enable flexible architectures, tightly-integrate ERP application meta data, and provide a wider variety of data transformation functionality."
Ardent's DataStage Extract PACK for SAP R/3 is claimed by the company to enable users to extract data directly from SAP R/3 systems natively and integrate it with data from other sources, leveraging the visual design process of DataStage for modeling and deploying source-to-target transformations and loads. This process is supported by a set of built-in libraries for complex transformations. Ardent's DataStage Load PACK for SAP BW adheres to the SAP standard interface protocol, BAPI, supporting high performance loading of the Business Information Warehouse from heterogeneous sources. Ardent's DataStage Extract PACK for SAP R/3 is now available on IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, HP UX10/11, and Microsoft Windows NT.
"Ardent has established itself as the acknowledged leader in the data warehouse and business intelligence infrastructure market. Our recent announcement to merge our company with Informix will further extend this leadership position and accelerate our ability to offer solutions for the next generation of business intelligence applications," says Peter Gyenes, chairman, president and CEO of Ardent Software. "Along with this, Ardent and Informix remain fully committed to providing open software infrastructure components and solutions which support all leading databases and platforms."
The SAP R/3 system is client/server business software supporting enterprise functions such as accounting and controlling, production and materials management, quality management and plant maintenance, sales and distribution, and human resource / project management. The SAP BW is designed for decision support needs, and is optimized for SAP R/3 systems. SAP BW is open to different source systems, and includes a broad range of predefined reporting templates geared to the specific needs of particular industries and user types, such as production planners, financial controllers, or human resources directors.
