Verisign pays out for CRM capabilities

In a clear sign that there are still those who reckon there's money to be made out of CRM, internet payment company Verisign is to acquire H.O. Systems, a provider of billing customer care solutions to wireless carriers, yesterday for a cool $340 million.

The company sells SpeedSUITE , a billing and CRM system tuned for wireless carriers. , "As demand for wireless communications grows, so does the need for services that combine the wireless voice and data and billing functions," stated Terry Kremian, executive vice president and general manager at Illuminet. a Verisign subsidiary.

H.O. Systems, founded in 1988, has roughly 300 employees and is a subsidiary of LiveWire, an investment and management group. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter, and VeriSign expects it to be neutral to slightly accretive to its fiscal 2002 earnings. H.O. Systems' technology may eventually be melded into VeriSign's payments gateway.
