Salesforce.com is offering UpShot customers free migration to its hosted system to escape Siebel.
The offer comes after Siebel Systems announced plans to buy UpShot for $50 million in cash. Salesforce.com reckons that Siebel's plans to merge UpShot into Siebel OnDemand means the end of the product.
Salesforce.com says it will offer "stranded discontinued Siebel UpShot customers 12 months of Salesforce .... service, at the same price they are currently paying for UpShot. And, we'll throw in the first three months of Salesforce.com for free."
"The choice for Siebel UpShot customers is clear: free migration to the leading software-as-service CRM solution or risk dying on the vine waiting for Siebel to figure out their strategy," said Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com. "Siebel UpShot customers have every right to be concerned. Siebel has said that they will do no further development of the UpShot product, and that they want to move UpShot customers to a new, un-tested, and as-yet unavailable first-generation Siebel OnDemand product.
Siebel CEO Tom Siebel insisted: "We will continue to support every UpShot customer indefinitely. Siebel Systems is fully committed to the hosted CRM market. Our objective is to provide the industry's best hosted CRM solutions -- CRM that is fast, easy, and affordable."
