Oracle launches Exalytics In-Memory Machine as Hana battle heats up

Oracle has announced the availability of its Exalytics In-Memory Machine, as its scrap with SAP and its own in-memory database Hana heats up.
The Exalytics In-Memory Machine is a high-speed engineered system featuring in-memory business intelligence (BI) software and hardware, which the company says will deliver real-time performance for transactions and analytics.
Scalability and performance improvements offered by the TimesTen upgrade will enable it to support more concurrent users, higher volumes of requests, and more sessions, according to claims by Oracle.
Speaking recently, Donald Feinberg, vice president distinguished analyst at Gartner, said in-memory data management would be a key enabling technology for real-time data analysis and decision making. “Organisations need to put in place a strategy for taking advantage of in-memory technology for both OLTP and analytics workloads. Application tier in-memory data management is an element of that overall solution that should be carefully considered."
