Dreamforce: "Exciting" social enterprises and "chilling" corporate springs

Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff outlined dream and nightmare scenarios for the social-powered future in his Dreamforce keynote.

 

 

For the last eight years the Dreamforce Conference has preached the gospel of The Cloud. But the ninth Dreamforce event saw Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff evangelising about a new topic – the social enterprise.

And according to Benioff, the significance of this trend is such that if it is ignored by enterprises, and if organisations fail to build out full social profiles of their contacts to better understand their wants and needs, they risk an uprising from customers and employees akin to that seen against dictators in the Arab world.
Salesforce.com itself, however, seems unlikely to experience such an uprising from its customer base at this juncture - with over 40,000 registrants for the event at San Francisco’s Moscone Centre, the annual Salesforce.com jamboree has now eclipsed Oracle’s OpenWorld as the largest enterprise software event.
