UPDATED 12.00 - As many of you probably suspected, this was in fact an April Fool's Day prank. Although you just never know....
Salesforce.com looks set to follow in the footsteps of Facebook by having its story played out on the silver screen.
Hollywood film makers are said to be keen to follow-up the phenomenal box office success of The Social Network and have earmarked the meteoric rise of Cloud giant Salesforce.com as the perfect story.
Columbia Pictures raked in over $200m from David Fincher's film, adapting Ben Mezrich's 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires for a modest $40m budget. And after scooping three awards at this year's Oscars, the studio has set the wheels in motion for Salesforce.com: The Movie.
Inspired by Behind the Cloud, Marc Benioff's book about the untold story of how Salesforce.com went from idea to billion dollar company, the film studio has commissioned a screenplay and is casting for the major roles.
And with the coffers overflowing after its last tech-story success, as well as rumours of substantial funding being made available by Skydance Productions, Columbia is said to be in negotiations with some of the world's biggest stars.
While The Social Network featured an array of emerging talent such as Andrew Garfield and Armie Hammer, the studio is keen to make the Salesforce.com adaptation a star-studded affair, with Antipodean actor Russell Crowe strongly tipped to land the lead role of CEO Marc Benioff.
And movie bosses are moving swifly to lock down multi-Oscar winning megastar Tom Hanks for the other critical part of co-founder Parker Harris.
The tinseltown rumour mill also indicates that studio execs will land Hollywood royalty for the role of Larry Ellison, with The Godfather star Al Pacino having expressed an interest in the part.
While no other details are available at this time, shooting is expected to begin by the summer in time for an April 1st 2012 release date.
We'll post more information about this incredible story as details leak. For the time being, feel free to post your own casting predictions for what is sure to be one of the marquee movie releases of next year.
